Ovarian Cysts

For some reason the ovary is highly prone to a multiple variety of cysts that can occur in a female’s body. It is believed that the ovaries primary function of hormone producing and releasing eggs is linked to the formation of cysts. Ovarian cysts commonly occur in the reproductive age during a female’s life but can occur at any age.

Ovarian cysts are a sac that occurs in or on the ovary. This usually occurs during a woman’s ovulation. These cysts are usually filled with a liquid substance but can be solid or a mixture of both. Ovarian cysts are commonly very small, about the size of a pea. They can grow to be larger than a softball if left untreated which is insane because the size of your ovary is about the size of a walnut.

Many females who develop ovarian cysts have no idea because they often produce no symptoms at all. This is why it is highly recommended to get a routine gynecological check up to make sure everything is ok.

For those with ovarian cysts abdominal pain is often the first sign of problems. If the cyst is very large you may feel pain or a feeling of heaviness in your lower abdomen. Ovarian cysts also can cause a lower abdominal pain during sexual intercourse.

Pain can also occur when the stem that forms on some cysts becomes twisted and stops the blood flow causing an intense burning sensation. If one of these cysts ruptures it can cause severe pain, weakness, nausea, and vomiting.

Ovarian cysts have been known to cause effects such as irregular periods and even infertility. Polycystic ovaries is a condition caused by ovarian cysts where the hormonal system that is regulating the ovaries is disturbed causing it to form a large number of cysts.

Depending on the placement of the ovarian cyst it can put pressure on the rectum leading to constipation or on the bladder causing a frequent urge to urinate. These symptoms can also be the sign of a more serious condition so talk to you doctor immediately if you experience any of them.
